If you’re serving wine at home during your own dinner party, wine etiquette tells us that you serve a wine that pairs with the food being served.
If your guests would like to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner, a lighter white wine is appropriate. If you know your guests well and they have a favorite or prefer red wine, it would be appropriate to serve a red . When you serve your guests, use wine glasses that are appropriate. Please see our “which wine glass?” page. Never serve wine in plastic or paper especially if the dinner party is a manageable size.
Never fill a glass to the top with wine. Allow the wine to “breath” so half to two thirds is the proper fill.
When you are a guest, proper wine etiquette is to allow the host or hostess to serve your wine for you.
